Custom made steel railing.

The trick is to find a good balance. When the vertical parts are too chunky, the railing would resemble those lazily made in old institutions; too light, on the other hand, will make it unstable.
On this project I worked with the client to find a good balance. We decided to use narrow, 12-millimeter vertical pipes to reduce cost and keep the railing looking light.
I used a TIG welding machine to make high quality welds almost invisible - nobody likes to look at sloppy welds when the whole thing should be light and breezy.
